Push

Recorded 29 September 2007

This piece was written in July and August of 2007. In the first section, each clarinet plays from a limited set of 3 or 4 pitches. In the middle section, the clarinets play notes from cells in a free tempo. In the third section the clarinets use an extended pitch set while using the same rhythmic scheme from the first section only running in reverse. Throughout the piece the percussionist gradually generates more and more intensity. This recording represents only the 2nd time that these musicians had played through this piece and I think it came out really nicely. There is a very fragile quality to it.
